Downstairs Reveal

The construction is finished downstairs!  We now have 3 more bedrooms, a bathroom, a kitchenette, and a weight room.  There is still a lot of work to be done on my end with the decorating but I will give you these pictures now and show you the changes I make along the way as I decorate them.

BEFORE:
(the door at the back of the family room is now an open hallway)

AFTER:
(obviously there have been changes to the Family Room walls as well which I will show you in some upcoming post).

We have two large openings on the left side of the hallway that we had trimmed out to look like columns, the first opening has doors to the weight room and storage room, the second opening goes to the guest bedroom.  The sconces on the wall can be found at wayfair.  The right side of the hallway has one bathroom and two bedrooms at the back. The hallway paint color is the same one I used upstairs - Benjamin Moore's Ozark Shadows but once again I had it lightened 50%.

The Weight Room

We had a window installed on the wall that connects with the guest bedroom just so we could get some natural light in here since there was no way to get any "real" windows in this room.

Boys Bedrooms (I got the small letters on their door from hobby lobby)

 Jackson's Room

Alex and Andrew's Room
I got these great beds at a local store "Down East Home" for $250 each and they were still brand new in the box!  The grey quilts on top of the beds are from target.

The Guest Bedroom

As you can see there is still A LOT of blank white walls waiting for me to decorate!  But I guess that is the good news for you - there is still  plenty of "Casablanca Transformation" posts coming your way!  In my next post I'll show you the downstairs bathroom.

  1. Do you love your countertops in your kitchen. Looking at that color now.

  3. I'm seriously considering "Asian Night" for our counters. Do you know what kind of edge treatment you did? I can't tell from the photos if it's the standard kind (are the seems visible?) or if you did a bevel or gem lock type? Thanks!!!

  4. I didn't do a special edge treatment in my kitchen, just standard. The seems aren't very visible because the counter top is dark and so are the seems. I think laminate seems are more visible on light countertops because again the seems are dark. I have done a beveled edge on laminate counters (in my downstairs bathroom) and I really like that look too. Good luck!

  5. Hi Amy, I LOVE your decor. You've inspired me :) This may be a silly question but when you refer to "DI" what do you mean? I specifically love the "Hot" hook you have in the bathroom and would love one for my guest bath.

    Thanks, Alexa

    1. The "DI" is the name of a thrift store that has many locations where I live in Utah. Sorry I try to remember to write "thrift store" but it looks like I have let "DI" slip in on a few posts! Basically the "hot" hook in the bathroom was just a lucky find. Thanks for your comment!

  6. Love love love! How are you liking the ozark? I think I want to paint all my walls in my new build that color. Lightening it up 50%, does it make a big difference u think? And what color is your trim/doors/weinscoting? Thanks!:)
    What a great job!

    1. Thanks so much! I LOVE "ozark shadows" and can't imagine ever getting tired of it! I actually painted the "full strength" color in my kitchen first. It looks great but I do think it would be just a tad to dark for a hallway so that is why I lightened it 50% and it did make the slight difference I was looking for. My trim work is a Sherwin Williams color called "apple peel." Best of luck to you!

  7. Hi there! I am enjoying your photos so much. Thank you for sharing. Could you tell me if your interior doors are 8'? We are in the process of starting our second new construction home and I think I am wanting to do 10' ceilings with 8' doors throughout. If yours are indeed 8' doors do your happen to know if there was a much higher cost than that of a standard height? We haven't gotten the pricing from our builder yet and I'm worried it may have to be cut from the long list of 'must-haves'. :)
Also, when you say the paint color was lightened 50% what does that mean exactly? How is that accomplished?
    Thank you again.

    1. Our doors are 8' tall. It was a price difference but I don't remember it being a huge price difference. I know it was something my husband felt was necessary and I wasn't so sure about - but once the house was done I was so glad he insisted. They really make a BIG difference with the 10' ceilings. Hopefully you can do them! As far as the paint goes- just tell your painter/paint store to lighten it 50% and they will know what that means and what to do. I have no idea how that is accomplished exactly but I think they do stuff like that all the time so it shouldn't confuse them. Best of luck with your home!

  8. Amy, what wood sizes/dimensions are your the base of your columns made of? specifically looking for the bottom two pieces and their depths. Is there a small piece between them that gives the separation or are their depths different?

    ReplyDelete
  9. This is going to be very hard to explain without visual queue's but I'll try! They are different depths, not a small piece between them. There are 3 pieces of trim making up these columns. Basically the first piece of wood which goes against the wall, is 3/4" thick and goes from the floor (doesn't quite touch it though) all the way to the top of the header. Then the base piece against the floor (which is also 3/4" thick) was nailed on top of that, and the trim (1/2" thick) was placed above that base piece and makes the long rectangle's in the column. Hopefully that makes sense? There are MANY ways to do trim and columns - so this isn't the only way to do it. Best of luck to you!
