Sorry the posts have been few and far between as we have been in construction mode - but one room is complete! We got the trim work all done in the dining room. The stencil on the top portion looks a lot better now that everything is finished (to read more about the stencil click here).

My husband has hung the trim in the rest of our house but we knew this project was beyond his skill set so this was done by professionals. I have to say - I miss how cheap it was when my husband did it. It is pretty expensive to hire out trim work - but they did A LOT of trim in this room and it took them quite a while to finish (and they worked very hard!). So they were worth it! With the completion of the room we went ahead and got our new dining table from Restoration Hardware and the Chandeliers are from Ballard Designs (they are the small size 23"). The rug is also from Ballard. Now I am working on the Dining Chairs - of course I will post more when those are done!
All of the moulding looks so fabulous! I love how all the trim has really changed the look of the room. Well, the trim and those wonderful lights!

I found your barstools on pinterest a while ago and just came back to your site because I was getting ready to tackle mine, I've looked through just about all your posts when I realized I know you! :) your house is amazing! You are doing just what mark and I planned to do when we built but have never got around to doing it. I love your style and will be coming back for more inspiration! Maybe I'll wait and see how your next bar stools hold up before I do mine, which are also from target. :)

Let me know if you have any questions along the way too. I have actually stenciled one of mine and am just waiting for some more time to do the rest and then I'll post them all! ReplyDeleteI got the lights from Ballard designs. The size I have is Small (23" around) and the color is "Aged Silver." I went with the smaller size since I have two hanging by each other, otherwise I might go with the larger size if there was only one. I have loved them though!!!

ReplyDeleteMy dining room is 18ft. long and 13ft. deep. However I think a smaller room can still handle 2 chandeliers!

I'm just using the regular old wax that home depot sells - nothing fancy. I still cover it overtime we eat because even with the wax it is prone to stains (especially water stains). No I haven't noticed any boards splitting or cupping. You might want to contact RH since it has been less than a year!
DeleteHi Amy, I see that you said the Ballard Design Orbs you put in your gorgeous dining room are in the "Aged Silver" color. Is it just me or do they kind of come off with a "gold" like color?? I am trying to decide which color for my dining room and am having the hardest time deciding! In person, do these indeed have a gold hue to them? Thank you!!

DeleteSilver Stencil paint was a Martha Stewart product from Home Depot that they sadly no longer carry. Any silver metallic paint would work though!
You did a beautiful job! Would you be able to tell me how far apart the lights are (on the ceiling where they hang). Trying to decide right now if my lights are going to be too close on a new construction. Thank you!

DeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! Looking to do a similar board and batten style. How thick was your batten moulding trim? I'm looking for similar look where the bottom horizontal moulding sits on the decorative baseboard, and does not protrude out. Also, did you remove your baseboard while doing batten project and then reinstall or leave in?

The ceiling boards are about 9" wide and just 2" thick. They are just regular boards, then the insides were trimmed out in an additional piece. The crown hangs just below the boards and is 7".

I know several others have asked, but it's been a while since your original post and I wanted to ask how the Restoration Hardware table is holding up. I'm very interested in getting one, but have heard the quality and durability are very suspect. I'm weary of putting any sort of sealant on it for fear of changing the color of the table. So I just wanted to ask if you're happy with it given the price.

I am still very happy with the "look" of the table. However you do have to "baby" this piece of furniture, which is kinda ridiculous knowing how much use tables get. Every year I put a coat of wax on it and I suppose it's "helping" but it still gets water marks very easily. I have been able to sand out spots by hand pretty easily, which is nice and at some point I suppose I could power sand the entire top to make it look new again. RH was offering this same table base with different tops (like metal, or concrete) which could give you the look without all the hassle. Overall I wish it wasn't so delicate, but I am still loving the look (even with the spots it has gotten over the years). My table doesn't get used everyday though, if it did, I would definitely reconsider.

I'm still weighing my options, and don't think the table will be eaten on that much, but i'm prone to spilling things in general, and if we have parties or get-togethers, I can see stuff being spilled on it rather easily :/ I guess I would just need to get comfortable with it being stained, haha.
